11+ Multiple Choice Comprehension
This short course looks at a range of literature extracts to give students practice at the 11+ English comprehension exams. Each test is a multiple choice quiz, ideal for candidates taking GL or CEM 11+ examinations. Multiple choice answers are automatically marked, so children – and their parents – know how they’re improving on a week-by-week basis.
The texts have been specially selected from a range of classic literature. This supports the children in their development of their vocabulary and exposes them to a range of important writers. Each test is written by an experienced examiner and 11+ coach.
Examples of texts covered include:
- Wuthering Heights
- Alice in Wonderland.
What to Expect from the Comprehensions
Students have access to the range of GL Assessment and CEM style English papers for a 12 week period. It is recommended that they log in twice a week in order to complete a comprehension assessment. This allows a continuous practice of the skills needed in order to succeed in the multiple choice style of comprehension exams. It is recommended to print off the extract in advance, although this is not a requirement.
How to Pass
In order to pass, students should aim for an average of 80% over the 11+ multiple choice comprehensions. This average is based on approximate passing percentages for the CEM and GL entrance exams. Passing this course does not guarantee entry to a grammar school, but provides additional practice for the entrance exams.
These practice comprehensions are suitable for students expecting to undertake most grammar school entrance exams. Past students have successfully received offers from their first choice of school.
In addition to our courses, we also offer 1:1 support for students undertaking 11+ examinations. More details can be found on our 1:1 page.
